One woman has succumbed to her injuries and died after the Jackson County Sheriff said the SUV was broad sided by a pickup truck shortly after 12:30 p.m. Monday. Authorities said the 72-year-old Topeka woman, now identified as June Rockey, was eastbound, crossing the highway from a convenience store on 190th Road when the SUV was struck by a northbound pickup. They said the woman was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sheriff Tim Morse said the intersection has been a site for many injury accidents throughout the years including a fatal accident that occurred there on June 27, 2018.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Potawatomi Tribal Police, Kansas Highway Patrol, Mayetta, Hoyt, Holton, Pottawatomie Fire Departments along with Jackson County EMS responded to the scene.
The northbound lanes were closed briefly due the crash but have since reopened.
