The Topeka city flag could soon be looking a bit different.
A few months ago the young professional group FORGE started working on a project to re-design the city flag. They asked the community to submit designs based on some colors and themes they outlined.
FORGE said they received more than 250 submissions. Now they’re sorting through those designs and trying to combine them into options that they can present to the city.
Michaela Saunders is part of that effort.
“People recognize that there’s an energy in Topeka that the current flag doesn’t convey,” Saunders said, “I think it presented an opportunity to maybe spend some time thinking about what the future of Topeka really is.”
Half of those submitted designs were sent in by local people who are 18 years old and under.
