For one day, Topeka will be renamed to celebrate the launch of a popular video game. Tomorrow, Saturday October 27, gamers will be able to try out Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee and Let’s Go Pikachu at Gage Park.
And to celebrate, Mayor Michelle De La Isla issued a proclamation to rename the city “Topikachu” on Saturday.
This morning, organizers set up trucks with demos of the game inside.
It’s not the first time Topeka has been renamed Topikachu. Nintendo launched the brand in 1998 in Topeka and then-mayor Joan Wagnon also renamed the city. You can get your chance to try the new game out in the parking lot of the Topeka Zoo at gage park from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Gage Park.
