Severe weather can strike at any moment. That’s why students at Landon Middle School in Topeka took part in a statewide tornado drill Tuesday morning.
Students practiced going to designated safety shelters during the drill. Principal David Boggs says severe weather isn’t something to take lightly.
“It’s extremely important. Remember, before we teach anybody anything, our top priority is to keep kids safe,” said Boggs. “When their parents drop them off at our door, they’re our responsibility. and they;re our kids. So, the first thing we do is make sure everyone is safe and secure.”
Tuesday morning’s statewide drill is apart of severe weather awareness week.
Officials say the week highlights the importnace of emergency preparedness during sever weather.
