Wichita police arrested a man and woman on suspicion of felony murder stemming from the death of their 2-year-old son.

It happened Thursday around 11:30 p.m. in the 4500 block of South Hydraulic.

Officers arrived and found that 28-year-old Patrick Javonovich and 22-year-old Brandi Marchant were walking back to the home after being involved in a verbal disturbance. The two had left the home leaving a 2-year-old boy and 4-month-old boy alone.

Police entered the home to check on two children and found a 2-year-old boy unresponsive in a crib. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy will be performed on the boy.

The 4-month-old boy was transported to the hospital where he remains for medical care. The child will be placed into protective care.

Police said the investigation is ongoing. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney who will determine what charges will be filed.
