Topeka police officers chase plenty of vehicles. But not many front-end loaders.

But that’s what they were after early this morning when they answered a call of some property being stolen from a construction site near north Kansas Ave. and NE Crane St. While officers were responding they located the stolen construction vehicle, a large front-end loader, fleeing from the crime scene. Officers observed 32-year-old Blake Pearson driving the vehicle north on the Kansas Bridge. Officers were able to stop the loader and arrest Pearson.  Pearson, who was described as homeless, was arrested on charges of felony theft.

In the process of the investigation, police found another suspect, 44-year-old Donnie Daniels of Topeka, who police said had a stolen firearm, and what they describe as “other stolen property.” Daniels was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of stolen property and felony theft.
