UPDATE: Nine-year-old dead in multi-vehicle wreck north of Manhattan

A 9-year-old girl involved in a three vehicle crash northwest of Manhattan has died. The Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near Madison Road and Highway 24.

The Highway Patrol identifies her as Isabella Plemons of Riley. Plemons died at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. The patrol said it was not known whether she was wearing a seat belt.

The KHP crash logs indicate Lauren VanMeter, 25, failed to yield to oncoming traffic while trying to turn onto the highway. Another car traveling southbound on U77 hit the left side of her car.

VanMeter had five children in the car. According to KHP. An 8-year-old was also flown to KU Medical Center and remains in serious condition. KHP cannot confirm whether they were wearing their seat belts. Two infants and a 2-year-old were treated and released for their injuries.
