Vicki Schmidt is the new Kansas Insurance Commissioner

Former state senator Vicki Schmidt has captured the Kansas Insurance Commissioner’s seat by gaining 63% of the votes statewide Democratic challenger Nathaniel McLaughlin.

The vote tally is  Schmidt’s 628,635 to McLauglin’s 365,404 votes with 100 percent of the statewide votes tabulated.

McLauglin is a former head of the NAAP in the Kansas City area and also served on the Wyandotte County Commission.

Schmidt is from Topeka and is a pharmacist.
