Topeka native Alyssa Conway broke Emporia State track and field record Saturday, hammer throw

DES MOINES, Iowa (KSNT) — Emporia State senior thrower Alyssa Conway broke a school record Saturday during the hammer throw event at the Drake Relays.

Conway has seen improvement in her last four meets, and Saturday she improved again, breaking a 23-year-old hammer throw record set at the 1988 NCAA Championships, according to Emporia State Athletics. The senior threw the hammer 57.63 meters. The previous record held by Laura Mayo was set at 57.58 meters.

The Topeka native finished in 2nd place.
