Topeka Pilots give local kids their first hockey lessons

Local kids got the chance to learn how to play hockey from the men who know it all, all for free.

The Topeka Pilots and Topeka Youth Hockey teamed up to make the event happen.

Kids didn’t need any previous skating or hockey experience to participate. They had plenty of sticks, gloves and helmets for the new future players.

“There’s going to be some bumps and bruises but you can’t really learn to skate without falling down so they’re enjoying themselves,” said Simon Watson, Topeka Pilots head coach.

Watson said almost all of the kids who came out today have never tried ice hockey before.
